Post-marathon recovery

Oh god, pool running is so boring.

When can I run again? I think I am going to get out tomorrow for an easy 5 or 6 mi trail run. And do some core workouts.

FULL MARATHON

Yesterday I ran a full marathon. I have been running seriously for the last four years, but got really serious when I started a boot camp program, dropped weight, and got faster. A year ago, I said I could  never stick to a training schedule and all the "work" that goes into a full marathon, let alone the actual race itself.

Well, I did it. I ran with a really good friend, and finished faster than I though I could. Today I feel amazing.

The worst part was about mile 22 when my legs felt really tired/sore and my feet hurt. Even after that, we still cranked up all the hills (my race signature) and were able to run pretty fast for the last mile. It basically went the way all my races do--great.

I think I am ready to run again tomorrow, or the next day and ready for the next races I have coming up. Most people I know take a long break from running after their first marathon, and don't even think about running another for a long time, but I want MORE. I am ready for this.

I am starting CrossFit next week. So that should be sweet.

Day 2

So far the fiber drink and I are getting along great.

Last night for dinner, I had a can of tuna and some wheatberry salad w a little hummus. Then I had some strawberries and huckleberries to satisfy a nagging sweet tooth. I probably also had some snacks throughout the day that didn't make it on here.

My legs are a little sore/stiff, so I am taking the day off from working out since we have that 15k on Saturday. But I did get the dog out for a 40-min walk, and will probably walk him again during halftime.

Today I have eaten/consumed: fiber drink, water, 2 eggs scrambled w quinoa, black beans, and zucchini spaghetti sauce from the other night (cooked the sauce out first, then added the eggs), more water, a strawberry/banana/soymilk smoothie after the walk with the dog. Still not really hungry from filling breakfast.

Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Started the Advocare 24 Day Challenge to hopefully get me over this last hump of weight loss and fitness. I am faster and stronger than ever, so weight loss is not a priority. But it sure feels good. I am also doing it with 20 other people, so the winner could win $200. That would sure be amazing since none of my clothes fit anymore.

Because I work nights, "day" is a pretty loose term. But this is what I have done since I slept last:

X fit DIY for 30 mins yest. Snack. Run 4.6 miles on Alabama Hill. Stuffed bell peppers for dinner. Work 8hrs. Tons of water, snacking on oatmeal, rice cakes w PB. X fit at 7a today. Officially start challenge with 1st fiber drink after I get home from the gym. Water. Apple. More water. Big salad w whole carrot, 2 celery, lettuce, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 tomato, 2 forks of hummus, and 2 hard boiled eggs. More water. Nap from about 12p-3:30p.

After my nap, hoping to get the dog out for a walk and getting into a better routine.

I also got new running shoes, and so far LOVE them. Hoping to wear them Saturday when Jake and I run the 15k.

Run and X fit

X fit is pretty much the greatest thing ever. I have been in it for 2 weeks now, and I feel great. Food has been pretty good too :)

Today I had to miss X fit for school, so I ran instead. I ended up doing 4.3 miles in 45 mins. Not bad because there is a bit of a hill too. Can't wait to get back to X fit though. My arms are still sore from doing weights on Tuesday and Wednesday.

blogging lapse, but no workout lapse :)

uh yeah, haven't been here for a while. I have been super good about working out though. I started going to a boot camp (kind of) workout once a week, and I have started doing hot yoga. Probably also once a week on that, though I don't really have a schedule.

Otherwise I have just been running, swimming, and lifting weights. So that's cool. I am down 5 lbs from January. woot. And I broke an erg record a few weeks ago.

And Jake and I broke our own Padden record in January. It has been super cold lately, so I haven't been running outside. But hopefully today.

Oh, and I have been riding my bike to work too. That's always nice. And then I don't feel so bad for taking a day off of working out.

DISASTER

blargh. My ankle is broken. fail. and it's my right, so I can't even drive. And there are no crutches in this damn city, so I am hopping around my house until tomorrow. Boo. No school, nothing. Not sure how long I will be out of commission, hopefully not long. I just need to be told if I have to stay off it, or if I will be able to work and walk on it.

Here's what happened: Jake and I were out for a run with the dog. It's fall, so everything is wet and there are wet leaves all over the ground. I guess I hit a rock or something and my foot rolled right under me. I didn't fall, but I think that may have made it worse since I then put all of my weight onto the end of my fibula. I am sure I heard a pop, but it may have just been my foot hitting the ground. Then I stopped and had to sit right away. It hurt soooo bad. Pretty soon I knew I had to get up and try to get over by the car before it hurt too bad to get up. My whole foot and a little bit of my lower leg hurt. I got home and then iced and elevated it, but even ice hurt, and Jake said that I was making too many pain faces and I needed to go to the doctor.

So we went to the doctor and I waited until 5 for the doctor to finally come it. She said that it was probably a sprain since I had a moderate amount of swelling, but sent me for an xray too. Once I got the xray, I had one of the providers look at it, and they saw a hairline fracture on the bottom of my fibula. So it's badly sprained and probably broken. The doc who treated me today didn't see the fracture so she said to stay off it tonight and to call my doctor tomorrow and they will see the xray and the radiologist's report. Hopefully I get good news tomorrow!

so....

shortly after that post (well the weekend of the 23rd), I took 4 days off since I worked nights and it effed up my sleep shedule. This week, I am back on the 5 times a week thing.

Today: ran 2 (!!!) laps around Padden in less than 51:00. I thought I was a 10:00 mile person, but apparently I am getting faster. Yay.

Yesterday: swam for 30 mins at the Y.

Day before: did weights at the Y (quick 1/2 hour session since I was in a rush)

Tuesday: ran more than one lap, but less than 2 around Padden. Prob about 1.75 (got most of the way around and then turned around so I wouldn't be tempted to get back in the car).

The dog has been okay when he sees other dogs. Sometimes he goes crazy and makes loud snort noises that I am sure scare the crap out of the other people with dogs. Oh well. At least I can control him with the leash and gentle leader.

ahh

I guess I am one of those people who works out 5 or 6 days a week. I like it :)

Today I drove the gym and did a fast, hilly mile on the TM, and then went upstairs for a core strength class, and then headed back down stairs and did three sets of 5 different arm workouts. It was definitely a good day.

Yesterday, took the doggie for an easy run downtown. We hit the South Bay Trail for about half an hour.

Wednesday I rested since I had to watch kids in the morning and then work in the evening.

Tuesday I ran to the gym and then did some arms and core and ran home.

Monday I took the dog for a short run on the trails near our house.

Sunday, Jake and I took the dog to Padden for a run. It was really nice to run w 2 buddies :)

So that's 5 days this week. I bet I will work out tomorrow too, and there is a 5k on Sunday morning that I want to do. It's a fundraiser for DVSAS. woot. I did the 10k version last year, but I want to try to make it a fast 5k this year. Hmmm. Huzzah.
